“And he gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers; For the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ:”
A minister of the gospel must learn to focus on doctrine. That is one hundred percent in line with what the bible says.
“Take heed unto thyself, and unto the doctrine; continue in them: for in doing this thou shalt both save thyself, and them that hear thee”
1 Tim 4:16
You must watch what and who you listen to! You must be careful about what you teach. And if you hear something contrary to sound doctrine, you must speak up (1 Tim 1: 3-10).
False doctrine has never been overcome when those who knew the truth remained passive. If false doctrine is taught, it must be vigorously withstood (2 Tim 3:1-4).
The increase in false doctrine calls for more dutiful teaching of God’s word.
The truth will be lost if those who have it do not speak out boldly. You cannot be silent; it is your duty as a believer to add your voice.
Another lesson to note is that doctrine must be the basis for choosing a pastor or a place of worship.
What is taught must rank higher than miracles or how many people attend the church.
When Jesus fed the multitude, they wanted nothing more than to follow him to the ends of the earth. But as soon as He began to teach that He was the bread come from heaven, they wanted nothing to do with Him.
The proof of an effective church is not in the numbers but in the spiritual quality of its members.
Are they being perfected for the work of the ministry? Every ministerial office mentioned in Ephesians 4 is expected to know the word enough to teach it accurately.
Don’t let any ‘prophet’ tell you something that is not consistent with God’s word.
Prophets in the Old Testament declared Christ and what he would do. Prophets in the New Testament have a revelation of what Christ has done and can explain it.
The New Testament prophet must be apt to teach God’s word, not contrary to it.
The bible definition of a mature Christian is someone who isn’t tossed to and fro by every wind of doctrine. Such a person must also learn to speak the truth in love.
