“Finally, brethren, pray for us, that the word of the Lord may have free course, and be glorified, even as it is with you:”
‭‭2 Thessalonians‬ ‭3:1

Today, we will be looking at the role of prayer in the spread of the gospel. Our opening scripture shows us how Apostle Paul instructed the church at Thessalonica to pray for him, and the spread of the gospel in their day.

As at the time when only the Jews had a ‘relationship’ with the Father, when redemption was still in prophecy form and had not yet been consummated, we saw God’s willingness to have the heathen come into His family. He says “Ask of me..”.

“Ask of me, and I shall give thee the heathen for thine inheritance, and the uttermost parts of the earth for thy possession.” Psalms‬ ‭2:8‬

Paul’s letter to Timothy,- his protégée in ministry- reveals his passion for souls. He encourages that Timothy pray for the salvation of all men.

“I exhort therefore, that, first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks, be made for all men; For kings, and for all that are in authority; that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty. For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Saviour; Who will have all men to be saved, and to come unto the knowledge of the truth.”
‭‭1 Timothy‬ ‭2:1-4‬

Salvation was the context of the prayer to be made. Timothy’s prayer for all men; kings and all in authority was primarily in the context of Salvation, not wisdom to rule or nation building.

This must be our primary disposition also in the place of prayer. We are to pray for the spread of the gospel. We are to pray for men, women, boys and girls that their hearts are receptive for the entrance of the gospel’s message.

We will arm ourselves with the information about the gospel! We will pray! We will go!

SAY THIS: I’m committed to praying for the spread of the Gospel’s message. This is an instruction, this is my calling in Christ. Hallelujah!
