“Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you:”
One of the most important things a believer must learn to do is to make friends. I’m not just talking about casual friendships, but friendships with the gospel in mind.
Of course, there are people you will have only one chance to speak with about Jesus, and you must take that chance.
However, there are some other people who you will need to be friends with for a while before they are finally convinced of the truth of the gospel.
You must be willing to commit to such people as well. Don’t be one of those who is easily discouraged from evangelism simply because you did not get results within the first five minutes.
Don’t be that way. People’s eternal salvation depends on you. The bible tells us of the dreary future that awaits those who do not know God:
“And to you who are troubled rest with us, then the Lord Jesus shall be revealed from heaven with his mighty angels, in flaming fire taking vengeance on them that know not God, and that obey not the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ”
2 Thessalonians 1:7-8
They would spend eternity in hell if they don’t believe the gospel!
Rom. 5:9 makes it clear that only faith in Jesus can save them from that:
“Much more then, being now justified by his blood, we shall be saved from wrath through him.”
If you buy something at a good price, you’d want to tell all your friends where you got it. If you see a vehicle running towards someone and you’re convinced their life is in danger, you’d do your best to save them.
How much more their eternal security? When preaching to others, you’re not offering something luxurious that would make their lives more comfortable. Not at all! You’re offering them their only way of escape.
So, preach the gospel and disciple others like one who is convinced of this truth.
