“Now unto him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us”
For the past two days, we’ve been learning and discussing the subject of “laying on of hands”. We’ve seen how effective it is in healing the sick, like Jesus said it would.
We’ve also seen how the ministry of laying on of hands had a significant place before men were installed into new offices or ministerial roles. Paul and Barnabas were beneficiaries of this. (Acts 13:2)
Today, we’ll talk about the function of the ministry of LAYING ON OF HANDS in getting people filled with the Holy Spirit.
In the early church, on several occasions, people received the Holy Spirit via the ministry of laying on of hands. Let’s look at two examples:
Now when the apostles which were at Jerusalem heard that Samaria had received the word of God, they sent unto them Peter and John: Who, when they were come down, prayed for them, that they might receive the Holy Ghost: (For as yet he was fallen upon none of them: only they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus.) Then laid they their hands on them, and they received the Holy Ghost.
“And Ananias went his way, and entered into the house; and putting his hands on him said, Brother Saul, the Lord, even Jesus, that appeared unto thee in the way as thou camest, hath sent me, that thou mightest receive thy sight, and be filled with the Holy Ghost.”
So, we see clearly from the scriptures that aside from demonstrating healing and commissioning people into ministry, laying on of hands is also potent in getting people filled with the Holy Ghost!
Let’s look at one more passage:
“And when Paul had laid his hands upon them, the Holy Ghost came on them; and they spake with tongues, and prophesied.”
Paul laid hands on these people who had never even heard of the Holy Ghost before that day, and they got filled with the Holy Ghost, spoke in tongues, and prophesied!
Ever wondered how you can get people filled with the Holy Spirit? Now, you know how! Lay hands on them!
