“For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul?”
Mark 8:36

Your purpose in life is that one thing you were created to do, and that you can only attain true success if you do, irrespective of how many other things you do successfully.

For example, if all an electric bulb can do is to illuminate a room, it is successful, and its creator will not be disappointed at its inability to tell the news or tell the time.

I once saw a bulb that could also make music. That’s nice but secondary. If it will be called a bulb, it must give light. This is how we are to understand purpose.

One question we should ask at this point is this: “What is that one thing that I was created to do, and that I must do for everything else to count?”

Today’s text gives a clue with the question:

“For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul?”
Mark 8:36

This was what Apostle Paul was talking about when he wrote to the church at Philippi.

“For to me to live is Christ, and to die is gain.”
Philippians 1:21

This means that Christ and His purpose must be the overwhelming focus of our life.

The state of your soul must be your number one priority in life.

You’d truly fulfil purpose when you come to know Jesus and help as many other people as you can to come to know Him as well.

If you doubt this, ask yourself, when I stand before the judgment seat of Christ at the end of my life, what questions will I be asked?

This will help guide the kind of life you are to live here.

DO THIS: Reprioritize today. Make sure your greatest investment goes to the things of God.
