“Who was delivered for our offences, and was raised again for our justification”
God doesn’t merely call us forgiven, He calls us justified. It is one thing to be forgiven, but a bigger deal to be justified.
One who has been forgiven was “guilty as charged” but pardoned. One who is called justified is declared not guilty; it is as though he did not commit the sin for which he stood trial for.
This is the way God sees everyone that has believed on Jesus Christ. It is mind-blowing!
How then is a believer Justified?
Rom 5:15 says “But not as the offence, so also is the free gift. For if through the offence of one many be dead, much more the grace of God, and the gift by grace, which is by one man, Jesus Christ, hath abounded unto many”.
So by Adam’s action, sin entered the world and all men were condemned. But by the action of Jesus, we have been given the gift of justification.
Our opening text, Romans 4:25, explains that Christ was delivered into the hands of justice and death, not for any offences of His own. He had committed none.
He died to make reconciliation and atonement for the sin of man. He died in the stead of man and was raised again from the dead by the quickening of the Holy Spirit.
When He was raised from the dead, we were justified in Him – legally discharged and acquitted.
Sin was atoned for, and everlasting righteousness imputed on us because we believe.
Jesus was crucified for our sins and raised again for our justification. When He was raised from the dead, we who believe were raised with Him as new creatures.
“Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away, behold all things have become new”
2 Corinthians 5:17
You have been justified by His Grace. The old man has been put away. God does not impute sin on you. This is the grace of God!
SAY THIS: I have put on the new man in Christ Jesus. The old man is put away. I am not guilty. I am not condemned. I am righteous in Christ Jesus. I am freely justified by grace. Hallelujah!
