FRUITFULNESS

“And beside this, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue; and to virtue knowledge.. For if these things be in you, and abound, they make you that ye shall neither be barren nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.”
2 Peter 1:5,8

Like I once said, “Fruitfulness is knowing, accepting and appropriating who you are in the Lord.”

Knowledge and fruitfulness are two different things. You can know that you’ve been given all things that pertain to life and godliness, but you must accept and appropriate it if you will be fruitful in that knowledge.

It’d take responsibility on your part if you will be fruitful. So, in what areas do you need to accept and appropriate who you are in the Lord? Let’s read 2 Peter 1:6-8.

“And beside this, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue; and to virtue knowledge; And to knowledge temperance; and to temperance patience; and to patience godliness; And to godliness brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness charity. For if these things be in you, and abound, they make you that ye shall neither be barren nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ”
2 Peter 1:6-8

Did we just read the last statement correctly? Apostle Peter is saying that if we do not abound in virtue, knowledge, patience, godliness, brotherly kindness and love, we will become barren and unfruitful in our knowledge of Jesus.

The word rendered ‘barren,’ could also be used to refer to the word ‘idle.’ In fact, ‘idle’ more accurately expresses the sense of the original.

The meaning is that if we are diligent in cultivating the Christian graces mentioned here, it would show. If you don’t show them forth, then you’ve been idle. It doesn’t mean that you have not been saved from your sins. It just means that you have forgotten who you are.

Peter makes this clear in 2 Peter1:9: But he that lacketh these things is blind, and cannot see afar off, and hath forgotten that he was purged from his old sins.”

The solution here is not to go and get born again ‘again, but instead to accept and appropriate who you are in the Lord.

SAY THIS: I accept and appropriate the truth of the word of God. I grow in Christian graces because I am empowered to do so by the Spirit of God
