“Blessed are the meek: for they shall inherit the earth”
Matthew 5:5

This promise to the meek is a quotation from King David:

“But the meek shall inherit the earth; and shall delight themselves in the abundance of peace”
Psalm 37:11

Bible commentator, Matthew Henry tells us that the same word rendered ‘the meek’  in the text (according to the Septuagint) is often found to be translated ‘the poor’ as it appears in the expression ‘poor in spirit.’

In summary, the point of the beatitudes is that we must be truly reliant on God for salvation and in salvation.

People are used to earning their right to things. Many have been tempted to apply the same idea to salvation thinking that their good deeds are sufficient to earn them a ticket into the world to come.

But God will have none of that. We must all kneel at the cross and receive the free gift of salvation in Christ.

“Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.”
Acts 4:12

Friends, put your trust in God! One thing is sure, if your desires and passions for self-gratification remain unchecked, you cannot truly follow Jesus. This is what being meek is opposed to.

John Wesley explains it this way: “Happy are the meek – They that hold all their passions and affections evenly balanced. They shall inherit the earth – They shall have all things really necessary for life and godliness. They shall enjoy whatever portion God hath given them here, and shall hereafter possess the new earth, wherein dwelleth righteousness.”

Brother and Sisters, there is an inheritance in Christ for the meek.

SAY THIS: I testify today that there is no other name given under heaven by which men shall be saved but your name. Thank you because I am numbered amongst the blessed for trusting in you for salvation, Amen.
