“And let us consider one another to provoke unto love and to good works: Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching.”
When we talk about renewing your mind, one of the best favours you can do for yourself is to change your association.
The people around you can either tempt you into a life of sin or, as today’s text says, provoke you unto love and good works.
“Be not deceived: evil communications corrupt good manners.”
1 Corinthians 15:33
1 Corinthians 15:33 talks about the kind of association a believer in Christ Jesus should not keep. Apostle Paul informs the church at Corinth to be careful of their association.
For example, if the people around you are following Jesus as well, it’d be a great encouragement for you. It will help make your walk in the Lord vibrant. It matters who you roll with!
This is why you must belong and be committed to a local assembly where spiritual growth is a priority.
Our opening text helps us see that the assembly of the saints goes a long way in helping us grow spiritually.
Paul tells the Church at Galatia:
“Brethren, if a man be overtaken in a fault, ye which are spiritual, restore such an one in the spirit of meekness…”
One of the reasons why many people struggle with their faith is that they are not accountable to anyone.
I’ve also observed that one of the reasons why many people go a long time without help when they’re going through a tough time is that fellow members in their local assembly are unaware.
Jesus told Peter in Luke 22:31-32: “…Simon, Simon, behold, Satan hath desired to have you, that he may sift you as wheat: But I have prayed for thee, that thy faith fail not: and when thou art converted, strengthen thy brethren.”
Apostle Peter benefitted from his association with the Lord Jesus. Jesus saw evil heading towards Peter, He prayed and it was averted.
In the local church today, there are several leaders to pray for you as well as several ‘Peters’ today that can encourage you. Get in their midst.
