TEMPLE OF THE HOLY GHOST

“God that made the world and all things therein, seeing that he is Lord of heaven and earth, dwelleth not in temples made with hands;”
Acts 17:24

“God does not dwell in temple made with hands.”

Apostle Paul could have said He no longer dwells in temples made with hands but he said, as a matter of fact, that He does not.

The logic behind his saying that is that God made the world and all therein.

As long as that is true, then God does not need temples made with hands. He never did. He never will.

This isn’t a fact that applies to just ancient greek temples, buddhist temples and others but to Jewish temples as well.

God never dwelt in Solomon’s temple.
People who attach extra importance to worship venues have this to learn.

No cathedral, however grandiose can in itself be extraordinary. Buildings will be what we make of it.

“For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them” Matthew 18:20

Be it a shopping mall, cinema or football pitch, if believers will choose to pray there, something special can happen in there.

Not because of anything the building in itself carries, but because of what the believers themselves carry.

Church buildings are powerful because we gather in them. Any glory witnessed in them comes from the believers.

Paul affirms this in his letter to the church at Corinth.

“Know ye not that ye are the temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwelleth in you?”
1 Corinthians 3:16

The believers therefore do not come to the presence of God when they come to them. Believers are carriers- conduits of His presence.

The buildings cannot be the presence of God because God doesn’t and never will dwell in them.

Rejoice in the reality that God has made you His dwelling place- His temple.
