“For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God’s.”
1 Corinthians 6:20
In all of history, no expression of love and compassion has ever equaled this – an innocent Man willingly dying for (the sins of) another. But even greater, we see a Creator dying for His creation. Such an overwhelming love! (John 3:16)
God gave Himself up for our ransom; He paid for all our sins in full by the precious blood of Christ. But, He did not stop there. He restored our fellowship with God and now, His spirit dwells in us.
A proper understanding of this great love should birth a reciprocal response of love from us.
1 Corinthians 6:20 tells us that we have been bought with a price. As such, we are to glorify God (our buyer) in our body and spirit. We belong to Him now, so we live for Him.
From the way Paul communicated in his letters, we can be sure his daily mantra was “Christ died for me, I live for Him.” (Galatians 2:20)
We see this also in the lives of the other disciples as recorded in Scriptures.
For this reason, we all must have a “henceforth moment.”
In gratitude to God for His precious gift, we should live as pleasing unto Him.
Paul wrote to the church at Ephesus telling them to walk in love as a response to God’s love.
“Be ye therefore followers of God, as dear children; And walk in love, as Christ also hath loved us, and hath given himself for us an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweetsmelling savour.”
In the succeeding verses, he went on to highlight attributes that should not be recorded among believers at all.
Then he reminded them, “For ye were sometimes darkness, but now are ye light in the world: walk as children of light.” (Ephesians 5:8)
Beloved, Jesus’ one-time payment for you rescued you from eternal damnation, rolled away your shame and gave you a new name.
You are now God’s own- you are worth more than the latest Apple device or designer bag.
Live always in this consciousness.
