“…He raised Him from the dead and seated Him at His right hand in the heavenly places, far above all principality and power and might and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this age but also in that which is to come.”
Ephesians 1:20‭-‬21 NKJV

One of the privileges of Jesus’ death, burial and resurrection is the believer’s authority.

If we examine the earthly ministry of the Lord Jesus Christ, we will see that He displayed authority without fear or favour.

He did so, especially in the area of exposing demoniacal forces. You might ask ‘why is this important’?

Well, it is primarily because this was an area the prophets of old did not touch. No one ever casted a demon out before the ministry of Jesus!

In Isaiah 61:1-2, it was prophesied that Jesus would wield authority for the purpose of preaching the gospel, healing various sicknesses and setting free the oppressed.

And did He do so? Of course, He did. The gospels- as they are popularly called- are replete with how much Jesus used this authority in creative ways.

He healed sicknesses (Matthew 14:14). He casted out demons (Mark 5). He walked on water (Matthew 14:25-27). He opened blind eyes. And so much more.

And all this was before His death, burial and resurrection. And when the redemptive work eventually occurred, something superb took place!

Look at how Paul reports it:

“And you, being dead in your trespasses and the uncircumcision of your flesh, He has made alive together with Him, having forgiven you all trespasses, having wiped out the handwriting of requirements that was against us, which was contrary to us. And He has taken it out of the way, having nailed it to the cross. Having disarmed principalities and powers, He made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them in it.” – Colossians 2:13‭-‬15 NKJV

Hallelujah! By His death, burial and resurrection, Jesus disarmed principalities and power for us. Not only that, He placed us way above them.

No wonder He said “Most assuredly, I say to you, he who believes in Me, the works that I do he will do also; and greater works than these he will do, because I go to My Father. – John 14:12 NKJV

Are you a believer in Christ Jesus? If so, then these words are to you. You reign far above all principalities and powers.

You can heal the sick. You do greater works! You’ve got power! Glory to God!
