“..the eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that you may know what is the hope of His calling, what are the riches of the glory of His inheritance in the saints,” – Ephesians 1:18 NKJV

In our theme scripture, we see Apostle Paul praying for the church at Ephesus, that their understanding is enlightened by the Spirit, lest they remain unaware of who they are.

In this light, we can safely conclude that it is important a believer knows who he is and what he has. Ephesian 1:3-14, Apostle Paul listed who the believer is.

In verse 19, Paul tells the believer what he has. This is our focus today. See how he puts it:

“…that you may know…what is the exceeding greatness of His power toward us who believe, according to the working of His mighty power which He wrought in Christ when He raised Him from the dead and seated Him at His right hand in the heavenly places, far above all principality and power and might and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this age but also in that which is to come.” –
Ephesians 1:19‭-‬21 NKJV

All of these can be simply put this way: “You’ve got power!”

No wonder the Apostles did mighty works! Immediately they received the Holy Spirit, the athletic speed with which they preached the gospel is astounding.

Let’s go down memory lane. The first sermon preached converted about three thousand souls (Acts 2:41). Almost immediately after, they got a man lame from birth to walk (Acts 3:7-8).

As if that was not enough, their shadow got sought after for healing (Acts 5:15). People brought their sick and those tormented by unclean spirits in their multitudes and they were all healed. (Acts 5:16)

“And through the hands of the apostles many signs and wonders were done among the people.” -Acts 5:12a NKJV

They were able to do all these by the power of the Spirit!

Do you know this same power is also at work in the believer today? “How can I be sure?” you ask. It’s very simple – Jesus said it is.

In Acts 1:8 NKJV, He said: “But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.”

Dear believer, have you got the Holy Spirit? Then you’ve got power! Use this power! Grow in it!
