“And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues; They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover.”
The death, burial and resurrection of Jesus brought the believer into a life of power. This was spoken of by the Lord Jesus before His ascension into heaven. It is captured in our theme scripture.
However, before the incarnation of Jesus, the prophet Joel intimated us of something similar.
“And it shall come to pass afterward, that I will pour out my spirit upon all flesh; and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, your old men shall dream dreams, your young men shall see visions: and also upon the servants and upon the handmaids in those days will I pour out my spirit.” – Joel 2:28-29
The prophet Joel informs us that these signs will be predicated upon the giving of the Spirit. And so it was!
No wonder Jesus asked His disciples (not just the 12) to wait for the infilling of the Holy Spirit.
“And, behold, I send the promise of my Father upon you: but tarry ye in the city of Jerusalem, until ye be endued with power from on high.” – Luke 24:49
Dear believer, the Holy Ghost resides in your heart now that you’ve believed. He is not there to be dormant. He is in you to fulfil all Jesus spoke about. He is in you for the manifestation of the signs in Mark 16:17-18.
He is in you to discern and cast out the activities of the devil – something that had never been done before the ministry of Jesus.
Jesus introduced us to the ministry of the Spirit. By this Spirit, we speak with new tongues.
You can lay hands on the sick and see them recover.
Because of the Spirit, signs follow you!
