“Since by the one man’s trespass, death reigned through that one man, how much more will those who receive the overflow of grace and the gift of righteousness reign in life through the one man, Jesus Christ.” – Romans 5:17 HCSB
The gospel is the good news of man’s salvation. It codifies the events of Jesus’ death, burial and resurrection.
In the gospel, we see the unfolding plan of God for mankind. We see how God creates a new kind of man to relate with.
The fall of Adam in the Garden of Eden led to dire consequences. Because of his offence, death spread to all men (Romans 5:12) but God already had a way out.
As far back as in the Garden, He already spoke of the Salvation of mankind through Jesus Christ.
To this end, Genesis 3:15 HCSB says, “I will put hostility between you and the woman, and between your seed and her seed. He will strike your head, and you will strike his heel.”
By the events of the Gospel, we see this coming to pass. The death, burial and resurrection of Jesus showed the power of God over sin and the devil. Indeed, He bruised the head of the serpent. (Revelations 12:9)
Paul puts it this way: “He disarmed the rulers and authorities and disgraced them publicly; He triumphed over them by Him.”
Colossians 2:15 HCSB
Hebrews 2:10 says Jesus destroyed the devil. After this, He sat down “far above every ruler and authority, power and dominion, and every title given, not only in this age but also in the one to come.” (Ephesians 1:21 HCSB)
The wonderful thing is He did it for us. Isn’t that amazing?
Tomorrow we will explore this in detail. For now, let’s give thanks to God for giving us Jesus Christ. Glory to God!
