“Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom, teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord.” – Colossians 3:16 NKJV

Adolf Hitler is undoubtedly one of the hateful men in the history of mankind. He is known for doggedly pursuing the annihilation of the Jewish race in particular.

The interesting thing is that he wasn’t alone in his pursuit. He had followers whom he told the lie that his enemies deserved to die. He told this lie until they believed it was true.

You may wonder why such a person is being used as an example in a Christian devotional. Here’s why: Just like Adolf, the devil is selling a lie to the world and if he is allowed to continue without opposition, he might succeed. What a massacre of souls it would be should he succeed but God forbid!

Don’t forget how Jesus described him. He said that the devil “was a murderer from the beginning, and does not stand in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaks a lie, he speaks from his own resources, for he is a liar and the father of it. – John 8:44b NKJV. So in the real sense of the word, Adolf was imitating the devil.

The devil is also described in other ways – a thief who comes to steal, kill and destroy (John 10:10) and a deceiver (Revelations 20:10), amongst other things.

All these is to emphasise the fact that, as believers, we have work to do. God has entrusted lives into our hands. He made us guardians of souls when He gave us the great commission. (Matthew 28:19-20).

In our preaching, we should earnestly contend for the faith (Jude 1:3). We are in a competition! We must be discerning of the lies of the devil!

Knowing how much of a liar and a deceiver he is, observing how he infiltrates society through various means to sell his lies, we must be bold as a lion and speak up!

We must speak through conventional and unconventional means – by preaching, at work, on our media pages, with songs, with movies and other creative mediums.

Like Paul charged Timothy, “I charge you therefore before God and the Lord Jesus Christ, who will judge the living and the dead at His appearing and His kingdom: Preach the word! Be ready in season and out of season. Convince, rebuke, exhort, with all longsuffering and teaching.” – II Timothy 4:1‭-‬2 NKJV
