“Not slothful in business; fervent in spirit; serving the Lord.”
Romans 12:11 (KJV)

To keep ablaze means to flame a fire as it burns; to keep a fire burning.

As believers, to keep ablaze means to continue to flame the fire of the supernatural within us.

In Rom 12:11, Paul the apostle, instructed the church at Rome and us by extension, to be fervent in spirit. It is an instruction because we have the ability to stay fervent in the spirit and it is our responsibility to do so.

“And be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess; but be filled with the Spirit.”
Ephesians 5:18 (KJV)

Apostle Paul said we should be filled because it is something that we have the ability to do.

For instance, a man who wants to get drunk would not just sit in a beer parlor. Rather, he will drink as many bottles as possible until he is drunk.

Dear brothers and sisters, it is true that we have received the Holy Spirit. It is also true that He lives in us and will live in us forever. However, we must consistently and continually stir up the Spirit in us.

If you don’t intentionally keep yourself ablaze, you will quench the Spirit (the manifestation of the Spirit) in you.

Speaking is one of the ways you can keep ablaze as a believer. You speak because you are filled (with the Spirit), you also speak to remain filled. Speaking is both the cause and effect of being filled.

In Acts 2:2-4, the apostles spoke with other tongues, because they were filled with the Spirit.

Speaking in tongues helps you to flame the burning fire in you. It stirs you up from within and edifies your Spirit. (1Cor 14:4)

“Speaking to yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord.”
Ephesians 5:19 (KJV)

When you pray in tongues, you build up yourself in your most holy faith (Jude 20).
This is an ability that you have as a believer by the Spirit. You can stay fervent every single day of your life.

It is your responsibility to keep the fire ablaze. Stop waiting for God to do for you what He has empowered you to do by yourself. Don’t be an irresponsible believer.

Keep ablaze, dear brothers and sisters. Flame the fire in you by speaking in tongues, today and every other day of your life. You’ve got the ability.
