“And it shall come to pass afterward, that I will pour out my spirit upon all flesh; and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, your old men shall dream dreams, your young men shall see visions: And also upon the servants and upon the handmaids in those days will I pour out my spirit.” – Joel 2:28-29
The Bible lets us understand that when God wanted to create man, He made one man and intended that all of mankind will come from that one man.
Similarly, when you look at the fall of man, you’ll recognize immediately that it took just one man for all of mankind and nature to be corrupted.
In the same vein, One man came and put the power of sin under by giving His life. By believing in Him, we are not only saved but are beneficiaries of His gift – the Holy Spirit.
Our opening text is a prophecy by the Prophet Joel about the outpouring of the Holy Ghost. He prophesied about a time when everyone – specifically those who have received Christ will have the ability to flow in the things of the Spirit.
His prophecy was communicated in a poetic form. His ‘seeming segregation’ of people and the gifts they can express was simply a way of saying that all would be able to participate. No one would be left out.
The Lord Jesus gave a commission before His ascension. He told His disciples to be witnesses of His resurrection to the world. He also told them of the power and ability that those who believe would be able to exhibit. He says:
“And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues;”
Mark 16:17 KJV
He said these were to follow those who believe. That was the only condition.
In Acts 2, all who were in the upper room received the infilling of the Holy Ghost, none was left out. All present spoke with tongues!
Apostle Paul further expatiates this same idea in his letter to those at Galatia. He says in Gal 3:26-28.
“For ye are all the children of God by faith in Christ Jesus. For as many of you as have been baptized into Christ have put on Christ. There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither bond nor free, there is neither male nor female: for ye are all one in Christ Jesus.”
Galatians 3:26-28 KJV
Hallelujah! In Christ, there is no segregation, regardless of geographical location, gender, economic class or social status. This is the day Joel prophesied! We can all flow effortlessly in the things of the Spirit.
