“But each one is tempted when he is drawn away by his own desires and enticed.”
James 1:14 NKJV
You have heard people say time and again that the devil made them do some things they were not supposed to do. While they seem to have a point, this is not necessarily the case.
Rather, “…each person is tempted when they are dragged away by their own evil desire and enticed.” (James 1:14 KJV). That’s right!
The problem is generated by the lust of the flesh in man. The reason temptations are temptations is because they appeal to the things that appeal to the flesh. The flesh only wants things that are contrary to the will of the Spirit.
So, why do people fall to sin? They are enticed by inordinate desires in themselves and instead of resisting with the word of God, they pay attention to those desires, fanning the flame of lust until sin is born.
“…when lust hath conceived, it bringeth forth sin…” James 1:15 KJV.
Don’t let sin take its place within you. One way to ensure this is to make sure you do not engage in activities that fan the flame of lust.
This solution may be gradual but it is an intentional process of putting the flesh to death:
“Watch and pray, that ye enter not into temptation: the spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak.” – Matthew 26:41 KJV
The Scriptures are replete with instruction for believers to walk in the Spirit. The Lord Jesus spoke about it. Apostle Paul too.
“This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh.” Galatians 5:16 KJV
“…if through the power of the Holy Spirit you are (habitually) putting to death (making extinct, deadening) the evil deeds prompted by the body, you shall (really and genuinely) live forever.” – Romans 8:13 AMP.
This week and always, make it a point of duty to defeat temptation by walking in the Spirit.
I walk in the Spirit this week. I cut off association with anything, person or activity causing the flesh to thrive within me.
