“In everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.” – I Thessalonians 5:18 (NKJV)

The above anchor scripture is a favourite when it comes to exhorting believers about gratitude. It’s quite instructional, which is why we must always remember it.

The first step to gratitude is remembrance – remembering what the Lord has done and to give thanks to Him for it.

Remembering to give thanks is a key discipline in the Christian life because it’s easy to get used to the mercies and blessings of the Lord.

The Psalmist once exclaimed: “Oh, that men would give thanks to the Lord for His goodness, And for His wonderful works to the children of men!” – Psalms 107:8 (NKJV)

Men forget! Sometimes, we forget how good God is especially when our requests have been met. Before the meeting of the request, we probably always reminded God about it but as soon as it is met, we forget Him until the next time we have other requests! This should not be. (Luke 17:17-19)

The fact that you are alive today is something to give thanks for. Also, if you were blessed (and I am sure you were) at the Reboot camp, that’s another thing to give thanks for.

Remembering to give thanks not only show that you are not an ingrate, it shows that you recognise the goodness of God towards you. And He has been good to you.

Why don’t you take some time to give thanks to God this day?
