INFLUENCER

“No one lights a lamp and then puts it under a basket. Instead, a lamp is placed on a stand, where it gives light to everyone in the house.”
‭‭Matthew‬ ‭5:15‬ ‭NLT‬‬

Have you ever bought something because you saw someone with many followers wear or use it? It felt like you just had to have it, right? In today’s world, we see companies and brands try to leverage on that tactic. They pay influencers to push their products to their audience because the revenue is almost guaranteed. So, many of the influencers have an agenda when they promote certain products to their audience.

In the same way, we must have a superior ulterior motive when we use our influence. The gospel is our agenda.

Jesus said that He is light and He gives light to the world (John 1:7, John 9:5). Like Him, we give light to a world clothed in darkness. We are of God and we must allow ourselves to be influenced by His character. Moral excellence, distinction and impact are in our nature because we are children of God.

“Therefore be imitators of God as dear children.”
Ephesians 5:1 NKJV

Let the legal realities in you become vital realities. We have been set as lights to shine in the darkness. As we have been taught, we cannot be afraid to shine!

From the anchor verse, we see that we have the responsibility to give light to everyone. As light, we dispel darkness and give light to men.

Always remember that it is a two-sided coin. Do not leave one out. While we are proactive about influencing culture, we must refuse to allow it influence us.

“Do not copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect.”
Romans 12:2 NLT

We are not to be changed by the culture. Instead, we are to determine the culture. We are to set the pace for others to follow (I Timothy 4:12). We cannot be dependent on the cultural structure in the world for our validation and worth.

Seeing that we have a responsibility, we need to create structures and platforms to infiltrate culture.

Consequently, we must be proactive and intentional about our influence. In the game of influence, we cannot just sit back and watch. We cannot be indifferent about it.

Here, silence is consent. So, be vocal about the gospel and persistent in rejecting standards that do not align with God’s standard; even if it is unpopular.

SAY THIS:
The gospel is my agenda. I shine as light for the gospel to bring glory to God. I am not influenced by the culture. Instead, I influence the culture.
