THE STANDARD OF LOVE

“This is how we have discovered love’s reality: Jesus sacrificed his life for us. Because of this great love, we should be willing to lay down our lives for one another.”
‭‭1 John‬ ‭3:16‬ ‭TPT‬‬

Doing everything else asides the set goal is tantamount to doing nothing at all. This is also true of our Christian devotion. God has a standard in mind. There is a plan and a purpose for the world and by His design, love plays a major role.

God’s entire salvation plan was based on His love for the world (John 3:16). We have received the gift of grace and it bestows a responsibility upon us. By virtue of this grace, we must also be gracious to others. If not, we do not understand it.

Our response to God’s love is to love Him, ourselves and others (Matthew 22:37-40). He loves us so we ought to love others. We have received grace so we ought to be gracious to others. Our sins are forgiven so we ought to forgive others as well.

“In this is love, not that we loved God, but that He loved us and sent His Son to be the propitiation for our sins. Beloved, if God so loved us, we also ought to love one another.”
‭‭I John‬ ‭4:10-11‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

Don’t reduce love to your feelings and what you find convenient. Remember that it wasn’t easy for Jesus to heal the sick many times. It was physically draining but He healed and taught the crowds because He had compassion on them (Matthew 9:16, 14:14).

Neither was it convenient for Him to die for our sins. Yet He did. He didn’t feel like it that day and would probably not have felt like it any other day (Luke 22:42-43) but He decided to die for us.

You won’t always feel like sacrificing or giving or supporting the people around you. They won’t always deserve it but being one who is loved by God means that you are committed to constantly and consistently love the way He loves.

Walk worthy of the calling to which you have been called. Walk in love (Ephesians 4:1-2, 5:1) We are without a choice. We are to love as Christ loves.
