“For You, Lord, bless the righteous one; You surround him with favour like a shield.”
‭‭Psalms‬ ‭5:12‬ ‭HCSB‬‬

Many people speak of God’s favour only in the aspect of material blessing, opportunities and wealth. While this may be all well and good, our anchor text tells us that God’s favour can be likened to protection – a shield!

We are very much aware that the righteous man is the one who puts his faith in the death, burial and resurrection of Christ. How does this translate to God’s favour?

The word translated as favour is “Charis” in Greek, which also means grace. Scripture tells us that grace and truth came through Jesus Christ, and we received grace upon grace of His fullness (John 1: 16-17).

Furthermore, Romans 5:2 tells us that we obtained this by faith:
“We have also obtained access through Him by faith into this grace in which we stand, and we rejoice in the hope of the glory of God.”
‭‭Romans‬ ‭5:2‬ ‭HCSB‬‬

Thus, by faith in the finished work of Christ, we partake in God’s favour. This favour is not an inferior one; it is the same one Christ has before God.

Apostle Paul puts it this way: “He predestined us to be adopted through Jesus Christ for Himself, according to His favour and will, to the praise of His glorious grace that He favoured us within the Beloved.”
‭‭Ephesians‬ ‭1:5-6‬ ‭HCSB‬‬

Not only that, God has chosen us to be a display of His goodness and kindness forever!

“Together with Christ Jesus, He also raised us up and seated us in the heavens, so that in the coming ages He might display the immeasurable riches of His grace through His kindness to us in Christ Jesus.”
‭‭Ephesians‬ ‭2:6-7‬ ‭HCSB‬‬

Dearly beloved, you have obtained favour from the Lord! You are accepted in His Beloved. You are His beloved. Rejoice in this!
