“All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: That the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works.”
2 Timothy 3:16-17 KJV
As believers, the word of God is our fence and foundation. It is from it that we know how we are to serve God. We are not to do things the way we like, but the way God likes.
Our anchor text tells us that all scripture is given by the inspiration of God. Men may have written it but it was inspired by God. It goes further to tell us why the scripture was given, it says “it is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness”.
Dear believer, our knowledge of right and wrong must be from the Scriptures not from feelings or cultural views because what we feel is right or what our cultural values accept may not be acceptable by God.
When it comes to accepting or dealing with people, we must do it based on love and the truth of God’s word. We must also be careful not to think that we are better than them, regardless of lifestyle choices. Remember, our message of grace is not borne out of superiority but out of truth and love.
However, we must be careful not to get to the extreme where we do not only tolerate people but also the sin they’re committing. This is so important because if we do this, we would be doing a dangerous thing to them and to ourselves. Our tolerance of people must be based on the truth of God’s word. We love the people, not the sin.
As children of God, we must take His word take as it is. We must embrace it above our feelings. The word is our standard and when it says something is wrong, we must accept it. There’s a way God has ordained for things to be done and they must be done that way.
For instance, God has designed that marriage should be between a man and a woman. Not between a man and a man or a woman and a woman (Romans 1:26-27). While we are to love the people who engage in this act, we must not accept their ungodly act.
“And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.”
Romans 12:2 KJV
Do not see the word of God as a restrictive fence, instead see it for what it is – a protective barricade. When you do, it becomes easier to communicate it to others.
