“and the Spirit of the LORD will come upon thee, and thou shalt prophesy with them, and shalt be turned into another man.”
‭‭1 Samuel‬ ‭10:6‬ ‭KJV‬‬

Being filled with the Spirit is always marked by a discernible experience. No man can say he has the Spirit of God without tangible evidence.

Across the pages of Scripture, we can observe that the infilling of the Spirit was followed by a key indicator – speaking!

Numbers 11:25 KJV
“And the Lord came down in a cloud and spake unto him, and took of the Spirit that was upon him, and gave it unto the seventy elders; and ti came to pass that, when the Spirit rested upon them, they prophesied and did not cease”

1Samuel 10: 6 NLT
“At that time the Spirit of the Lord will come powerfully upon you, and you will prophesy with them. You will be changed into a different person”

Luke 1:41-42 NLT
“At the sound of Mary’s greeting Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit. Elizabeth gave a glad cry and exclaimed to Mary “God has blessed you above all women, and your child is blessed”.

Little wonder that when the Holy Spirit came upon the disciples in the Upper Room on the day of Pentecost, they spoke! Although, something different happened this time- they spoke in unknown tongues!

When Peter explained this phenomena, he said “Therefore, since he has been exalted to the right hand of God and has received from the Father the promised Holy Spirit, he has poured out what you both see and hear” (Acts 2:33).

Dear believer, speaking in tongues is evidence of the glorified Christ. However, it is not for only some believers. As Jesus explained in Mark 16:17 KJV, “And these signs shall follow them that believe; in my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues”

Everyone who believes can speak in new tongues! Rejoice in this!

But, that’s not all.

Eph 5:18 instructs us to be filled by the Spirit and we do so by speaking in unknown tongues!

So, just as speaking in tongues is evidence of the infilling of the Spirit, so also can we fill ourselves again by speaking in tongues! It is wonderful to know that we can continually fill ourselves with the Spirit. We have an endless resource!

God is not wasteful. If He has given us all the gift of speaking tongues, it must be useful for our edification. 1 Corinthians 14:4a KJV says “He that speaketh in an unknown tongue edifieth himself”
Beloved, put this gift to use. Spend time filling yourself with the Spirit and edify yourself by speaking in tongues today!
