“But the angel said to them, “Don’t be afraid, for look, i proclaim to you good news of great joy that will be for all the people.””
Luke 2:10 CSB
Our anchor text is the proclamation an angel made on the night Jesus Christ was born. Following this statement, the Bible records that a multitude of heavenly hosts appeared with the angel praising God (Luke 2:13-14).
This is not the only time the announcement of salvation was accompanied with joy.
In Matthew 13:44, Jesus, telling a parable about the gospel, said that the man who found a treasure in a field went with great joy to sell all he had and bought that field.
We still can find more references to joy and the saved man in 1 Peter 1:6-8, Romans 14:17 and Luke 15: 7 & 10.
All this is to say that we have found a treasure worth more than all the money in the world. We have come to countless thousands of angels in a joyful gathering (Hebrews 12:22). Therefore, the gospel is one that should produce a response of joy in us.
On our account, as Jesus said, there was rejoicing in heaven the moment we believed the message of hope in Christ Jesus.
Yet, sometimes the gospel is not portrayed this way. In a bid to curb immoral tendencies, the gospel is often presented only as a condemnation for wrong behaviour.
This ought not to be so. The gospel gives hope to man, saying that we no longer have to be bound to the flesh. That by the Spirit, we can put to death the fleshly desires that once ruled us (Romans 8:12-14). As such, we are now sons of God.
This is a good reason to rejoice! So we, as believers, ought to show the world that they are missing out not being in the fold. Don’t give in to the temptation to envy the world, you have it better! You are at peace with the Eternal King. You are loved by the Righteous Judge and best of all, you get to love Him back.
Dear believer, you are now a bearer of good news. Decide to walk as such today. Wherever you go, spread the aroma of Jesus Christ. Carry this good news of great joy on your inside everyday.
The presence of God dwells in you and in His presence there is fullness of joy (Psalm 16:11). So rejoice!
DO THIS: Be a bearer of good news and share it with great joy with someone this week.
