“And our own completeness is now found in him. We are completely filled with God as Christ’s fullness overflows within us. He is the Head of every kingdom and authority in the universe!”
Colossians 2:10 TPT
In our human interactions, it is easy to compare ourselves with others. This may either have the effect of making us puffed up because we think we have it better than others or causing distress because we think others are better off than we are.
In these scenarios, one thing is obvious – measuring with the wrong standard and focusing on the wrong things!
“God has given me grace to speak a warning about pride. I would ask each of you to be emptied of self-promotion and not create a false image of your importance, instead honestly assess your worth by using your God-given faith as the standard of measurement, and then you will see your true value with an appropriate self-esteem.” – Romans 12:3 TPT
Think about it. You have eternal life. You are worth the sacrifice of Christ. Every other thing is secondary. Rather than envy unbelievers for the temporary things they possess, you should have compassion for them and share the gospel with them.
“So then, forsake your worries! Why would you say, ‘What will we eat?’ or ‘What will we drink?’ or ‘What will we wear?’ For that is what the unbelievers chase after. Doesn’t your heavenly Father already know the things your bodies require?” – Matthew 6:31-32 TPT
Your focus cannot be the same as an unbeliever. You don’t have the same perspective on life as they do.
This is not an argument for mediocrity. Make no mistake, we are destined to excel but that is not our focus or drive. That is not what consumes our thoughts and compels our actions. We have a different motivation and standard.
See how Romans 12:3b puts it:
“Instead honestly assess your worth by using your God-given faith as the standard of measurement, and then you will see your true value with an appropriate self-esteem.” (TPT)
Have you been feeling left out or behind because you are using the wrong measurement? You need to know that in Christ, there is no need for comparison.
You are complete in Him. You are complete in Christ, every other thing is a compliment. Stop measuring your worth by the world’s standard, look to God instead.
