“Therefore, we are ambassadors for Christ, God making his appeal through us. We implore you on behalf of Christ, be reconciled to God.”
2 Corinthians 5:20 ESV
Evangelism is tasking because the topic of eternity can be awkward and in some parts of the world, offensive.
Like any other seemingly difficult but important venture, it is imperative to identify the purpose of evangelism and let it be your drive as you share your faith with people. If you are evangelizing for the wrong reasons, you are most probably going about it wrong too.
Sharing your faith should not be something to just boast about or a way to vainly make yourself feel better about your faith. Preaching is important because God commanded it! (Matthew 28:19-20)
As a child of God, your daily goal should be to please the one who saved you from darkness and called you into endless life and light. When He commands, your default response should be obedience, regardless of the cost.
No cost should be too much for the one who gave His life for you. You may have many excuses not to preach; It may not be convenient. However, when you look to the one that sent you, you should be spurred to take action.
Take a cue from Peter and the other apostles in the early church. The Sanhedrin and high priest commanded them not to preach in the name of Jesus, “but Peter and the apostles replied, “We must obey God rather than men….”(Acts 5:29 HCSB)
They had just been miraculously delivered from prison and went right back to the Temple to preach. Rather than fear their enemies, they audaciously obeyed the God who sent them.
In addition, to preach the gospel fervently, you have to see the unsaved souls for who they are – people who are dead in sin. We are sent to a dying world. Every single person around you without Jesus is destined to die (John 3:18), no matter how dear they are to you.
Dear believer, you have exactly what they need. You were once like them but God’s mercies saved you. Don’t let your fear of inconvenience rob them of eternal salvation.
Understand the gravity of eternity, and that there’s only a limited time before it comes knocking. In this light, do all you can to make sure that everyone around you is saved. Take a step further and reach out to even people you don’t know because God has a plan for them too.
“For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God, our Saviour, who will have all men to be saved, and to come unto the knowledge of the truth.” – 1 Timothy 2:3-4 KJV
If the souls of men are God’s priority, they should be yours too.
