“Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom, teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord.”
Colossians 3:16 NKJV

Welcome to Bible Reading Plan Recap – that time we do a quick summary of what we read in the Bible this week. It’s the 39th week of our daily Bible reading plan.

This week, we rounded off our reading of Luke, Hebrews, Proverbs and Isaiah. And we started reading John 1:1-42, James 1-2:1-13, Ecclesiastes 1-3:1-15, and Jeremiah 1-9.

As opposed to the book of Proverbs which gives the impression that the world operates on the principles of justice, wisdom and understanding, Ecclesiastics claims that doing the right things does not guarantee success in life. Its tone is that of sarcasm and gloom but it rounds off on a good note:

“Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God and keep His commandments, For this is man’s all. For God will bring every work into judgment, Including every secret thing, Whether good or evil.” – Ecclesiastes 12:13‭-‬14 NKJV

So far we have read Ecclesiastes 1-3:1-15.

Our reading from the book of Jeremiah so far has spanned chapters1-9. This book narrates the prophecies about God’s judgement upon Israel. Jeremiah warns the people that if they continue with their sinful acts, they will be exiled to Jerusalem. Interestingly, he lived through the horrors of his prophecies.

This week, we also began reading new books of the New Testament, namely John and James. John wrote about the deity of Jesus more than the other gospels. In the book of John, we see Jesus Christ presented as the Word of God, and God. So far we read John 1:1-42.

The book of James, on the other hand was written by James, the half-brother of Jesus. He didn’t follow Him (Jesus) until after His resurrection. James was a leader in the early church and his book’s aim is to offer practical ways to ensure that our conduct matches our faith. So far, we have read James 1-2:1-13.

And that’s all we read in our Bible reading plan this week. Have a beautiful weekend. Remember to always read your Bible and pray everyday.
