“Pursue love, and earnestly desire the spiritual gifts, especially that you may prophesy.”
1 Corinthians 14:1 ESV

Every believer is endowed with special abilities by the power of God. Therefore, manifesting the power of God is not for only a select few, but every of His children. (1 Corinthians 12:7).

We emphasized this in yesterday’s devotion. Today, we would be taking it a step further by looking at how to walk in the power of God.

In his letter to the church in Corinth, Paul highlights the way to walk in power: desire.

1 Corinthians 14:1 NIV says, “Follow the way of love and eagerly desire gifts of the Spirit, especially prophecy.”

At first glance, it is easy to conclude that desire means a strong feeling of wish or want. However, it is not so.

The Greek word translated as desire is “zelo”. It means to move with desire or to strive after something, a passion that is so strong that it moves one to action. Scripture used the same word in other places to describe the motivation behind the actions of some people (Acts 7:9, Acts 17:5).

Thus, Paul’s instruction to the church concerning spiritual gifts is to seek out opportunities to dispense God’s power passionately. The instruction remains the same for us today.

Is there anyone sick around you? Lay your hands on them! It has been said of you that you would lay your hands on the sick, and they would be healed.

With desire comes honour. This, in itself, is a way to grow desire. As human beings, we are influenced by the things we give our attention to. The same principle works in relation to spiritual gifts.

We see this principle demonstrated by Peter. Though he spent his life on the sea as a fisherman, it never occurred to him to walk on water until he saw Jesus do it.

Likewise, we can look at our ministry gifts, honour the graces in their lives then replicate them in ours.

Dear believer, you have the Holy Ghost in you. You have been equipped by God to dispense His power to all who are in need. Walk in your abilities today.

I am a courier of the power of God
Wherever I go, I dispense the glory of God
Whenever there is a need, I supply
I am the solution to the problems around me
God has anointed me with the Holy Ghost and with power
So I go about doing good and healing those oppressed of the devil.
