“We are bound to thank God always for you, brethren, as it is fitting, because your faith GROWS exceedingly, and the love of every one of you all abounds toward each other…” – II Thessalonians 1:3 NKJV

Did you know that faith can grow? Some people say it’s either you have faith or you don’t but in our anchor verse, Paul prayed that faith would grow among the believers in Thessalonica.

Another thing to note about faith is that you have the ability to keep your faith stirred and to develop it. “If you wait till you need faith before growing it, you are already too late.” – paraphrasing Smith Wigglesworth.

So how can you grow in faith and grow your faith as a believer? First, feed your faith regularly. Matthew 4:4 shows us that God’s word is faith’s food.

“But He answered and said, “It is written, ‘Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God.’ ”
Matthew 4:4 NKJV

“So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.”
Romans 10:17 NKJV

Faith begins when the will of God is known. Your faith is only as good as your knowledge of God’s word. The proper basis for faith is having the right convictions about the word of God. Know what God says, get acquainted with Him through the Word.

Secondly, exercise your faith. Start little but exercise your belief in God. Start where you are right now. By consistently, trusting in God’s word and acting on it, you will grow your faith daily.

Faith is not will power, it is not being strong headed or stubborn. Believing can be a product of willpower but it is a lot more. It is believing in God and His word and taking corresponding action.

Lastly, know that prayer stimulates faith.
“But you, dear friends, as you build yourselves up in your most holy faith and pray in the Holy Spirit …”
Jude 1:20 HCSB

By praying, we build up ourselves and strengthen our faith. In the place of prayer, convictions are strengthened and we prepare for the plans of God.

Dear believer, don’t let your faith weaken. Instead, commit yourself to growing in faith through study of the word of God, prayer and exercise of faith. Take action by faith today and experience great growth in your faith.
