“from whom the whole body, joined and knit together by what every joint supplies, according to the effective working by which every part does its share, causes growth of the body for the edifying of itself in love.”
‭‭Ephesians‬ ‭4:16‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

If you have ever doubted God’s design for the growth and edification of the body of Christ, the anchor scripture should make it crystal clear.

The body is nourished from the head through the ‘joints’. God uses people to help His people grow.

Reading some of the preceding verses before the
text above will help you understand this better:

“And He Himself gave some to be apostles, some prophets, some evangelists, and some pastors and teachers, for the equipping of the saints for the work of ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ,”
‭‭Ephesians‬ ‭4:11-12‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

Christianity was never designed to be a solo mission; God gave you ministry gifts so that you can grow and be effective in your ministry to others as well.

What are the implications of this? For one, for proper nourishment and consistent growth, you should be under quality spiritual leadership.

Who is your pastor? Are you growing in the knowledge of Christ under his/her teachings? What about your local church? Do you experience progress and joy in the faith? The answers to these questions are paramount to your own personal edification.

Secondly, you must not neglect your own responsibility of ‘supplying’ to the body of Christ.

The same way you have been taught in the Lord, you must also teach others. The body of Christ needs you to grow.

Someone evangelized to you before you got saved. There are millions of unsaved people in the world, it is your responsibility to evangelize to them and disciple them.

In Acts 6, there was a need in the church for people to take on responsibility for feeding the widows so that the Apostles could focus on prayer and the study of the word.

Stephen, Philip and five others were chosen. See what happened almost immediately after:

“So God’s message continued to spread. The number of believers greatly increased in Jerusalem, and many of the Jewish priests were converted, too.”
‭‭Acts 6:7 NLT

There was great growth because everyone played their part.

Also when the church gathers, it is an opportunity for you to supply.

“How is it then, brethren? Whenever you come together, each of you has a psalm, has a teaching, has a tongue, has a revelation, has an interpretation. Let all things be done for edification.”
‭‭I Corinthians‬ ‭14:26‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

The word of God grows mightily when you get involved. Never underestimate your contribution!
